On Saturday morning Indie woke up to his usually “I can’t take it anymore I have to have food” attitude, so I feed him and took him for a walk, usually the morning walks are smaller, but today I found this ATV road. We walked through Dixie State Park and found a cross country ski gate into Bryce Canyon. I searched for anything that said no dogs, nothing posted, so we proceeded. I finally was able to sneak my unleashed dog into Bryce Canyon, legally. Note – I’m not promoting this kind of activity and to the US Government, which I know is seeing this, you should post a sign at that gate.
So we wondered around the park for a bit and Indie started acting really nervous, keeped looking back. I don’t think it was him being in the park. So a few minutes later we see a herd of Mule Deer working their way through the park, a few minutes after we see some coyotes following. Now I know what spooked Indie, we watched them both for a few minutes then heading back to camp.

On the way back we ran into a couple from Omaha, they were tent camping, brrrr. We stopped and chatted a about travel and where we had both recently visited and they shared some maps.
We packed up trailer and headed into the North Campground of Bryce Canyon, this is a primitive campground with no electric or water but we were less than 200 feet from the rim trail. We toured Bryce Canyon by car and took some pictures. The campsite was great, I hung up the hammock, and Indie slept in the warm sun, and dirt. At sunset approached we walked up to the rim trail, Indie was wearing his training vest, which strangely makes him act better. I had my chair and a bottle of wine and we watched the sunset, it was so cool with all the hoodoos around and the colors changing as the sun dropped. We were looking to the east so the sun dropped behind us, bet the sunrises are pretty sweet.

The next morning we got up early and were able to watch the sunrise, wow, what a sight. There were several people watching with us as the sun came up.
Overnight I found out that my battery in the trailer had discharged rapidly, guess having it for 4 years I could not ask for more. So we headed out the next morning thinking I was going to have to find a town to pick up a new battery, of course in Utah everything is closed on Sunday. So we headed out towards Zion National Park.
The trip takes us back through Red Canyon and south through some very beautiful roads with sculptured cliffs on each side, it’s an amazing road that words can do no justice. The good news is we are also dropping in altitude, finally some warm weather again! We come into Zion National Park, wow, what an amazing park, there are these huge red rock cliffs that were cut by the water 1000’s of years ago, and you drive right through this canyon. When I entered the park the ranger got a tape measure and measured the width of my trailer, 93”. This is good because if your over 94” you have to pay a special fee to go through the mile long narrow bridge. The reason for paying is that they need to shut down the tunnel so you can drive in the middle. The tunnel was designed for 1930’s vehicles. The good news is I did not have to pay the fee, the better news was the RV in front had to pay and I just followed him. I’m not sure I would have been comfortable having cars coming the other way in this tunnel.
After the tunnel you go down the really wicked windy road, in a car it would be no problem driving a trailer a little more nervous. We stopped 2/3 of the way down so we could stop look around and let Indie pee in another National Park. I should get him a little sticker board of all the National Parks he has lifted his leg. On the other side of the park is Zion Canyon RV Park, I find this great site, next to the river and ask how far is it to St George, which is nearest town we may be able find an open store to to get a battery, they told me 1 hour. Arggg, I would have drive an hour, get a battery and drive back an hour, Indie would be pissed so I decide to take the trailer and camp in St George. On the way I’m going through the town of Hurricane, which is about half way to St George, and a Checkers Auto store is open, I yank out the battery go in, they have exactly what I need, install the new battery and decide it would be better to go back to Zion, my spot is still available, I pull in and take Indie for his much needed swim.
We set up camp, charging my new battery, did laundry, my 10 day used sheets needed some time away from the camper. Indie got a few more swims. This place also has internet and cable TV, so we watched some baseball/football while cooking sausage dogs for dinner. Beer, dogs, and baseball how cool is that, just need some apple pie. But the best about this place is my backyard, I look right into the Zion park.

The camp next to us is a family from San Diego, their daughter really likes Indie and comes over to play and pet him, he loves the attention. So today we’ll drive through the park, see the sights and take some pictures.
