Detour, left turn to Bryce Canyon

Woke up this AM, looked at the map, checked the weather and found that I should go to Bryce Canyon for two days then on to Zion, BC came highly recommended. The drive was fabulous, going down I-15, then heading east through Red Canyon, and then to Bryce Canyon, the entrance is at 8000 feet. Found a campsite right outside the park so I can charge batteries, get water, empty tanks, and take a shower. I’ll be camping in Bryce Canyon tomorrow night, it is primitive camping. I’ll miss the Texas/OU game, but heck I’m in a National Park. I won’t even know the score for a few days, no cell phone access.

As I pulled into camp met a couple from Michigan that have this really cool ’74 trailer that is 14 feet. We toured each other trailers and drank some beer. While walking Indie a couple from Canada, who I met the night before in Nephi was pulling into camp. They cut their turn a little short and the right side of the trailer went into a ditch, the backend of the trailer was hitting ground and the right wheels were off the ground in the ditch. So several of us got it jacked up, put wood underneath and used a Ford F350 to pull it out from the back. It took about 1.5 hours and 5-6 guys, the women and dogs watched, but we able to free them with no damage.

Indie was playing with Ruby, which is the Michigan couples brown lab, Indie started to pretend he was a buffalo and rolled in the dirt, covering him from head to tail in this fine dirt. Everyone thought it was really funny, but they don’t have to have him in his trailer. One person suggested waiting until it was late and taking him into the shower, interesting idea but there are not many places around when I get kicked out. So I got the handy dandy vacuum out and tried to vacuum my dog in the middle of the park, I’m sure there were some comments. Sadly, this was not as successful as getting the flies. So I found a water station that I could hose him down, he was not that happy, but at least he is clean enough to go into the trailer, he’s fast asleep.

So National Parks don’t allow dogs, guess a few bad dogs screwed for us all. But prior to leaving, I ordered an in-training, therapy dog vest. I do really want him to become a therapy dog, so this is legit. I have actually been working with him this week. We’ll see how that works tomorrow. Someone suggested that I could say I was blind, I did almost die this week with my eye, I could then take him into the park as my retina tear dog. I do have a note from Dr Jones. I’m sure I’d get caught when I take out my camera and start taking pictures. Since I’m staying in the park, most likely I’ll wait until everyone leaves the park and go for a walk.

I’m having a hard time figuring out the liquor laws in Utah, you can buy 3.2% beer in the grocery, wine, real beer, and other stuff you have to go to a state run store. But their selection is REALLY bad, good thing I got some Glenlivet in Idaho, maybe my salvation.

So next few days in Bryce Canyon, then on to Zion, then to the big grand daddy, Grand Canyon next week.

  1. Utah liquor laws are fixed so that you caught get to drunk. The last time Ross & I were in Southern Utah, we settled for 3.2 beer, but thought we could get the real thing in Chili's but were told that we could not just sit in the bar and drink? My Suggestion, go to Nevada or Arizona and pick-up your beer & wine before you go on with your trip
