Travel with Indie, I was asked to come along and drive!

October 9, 2009

We continued down the road today, ending up in the Catfish Junction RV Park just west of Weiser ID on the Oregon side. Nice little place that sits on the Snake River, but bitterly cold at night, had to turn the heat on because of the wind that comes into the camp. Seems like a fishing camp during the summer and a hunting camp in the fall and winter.

This is as close to the perfect spot for Indie, there is a river to play fetch, the owners have three black labs, and our camp neighbors are hunting with their six labs. There is a huge field were the dogs can all play. Indie is completely exhausted, don’t think I’ll be able to wake him in the morning, may have to carry him to the car.

Indie wasn’t calming down in the truck, so we stopped at Walmart in Pendleton and bought him a $5 bed pillow, now he’s sleeping, he is SO spoiled, best $5 I have spent so far.

Everything is getting back to normal after yesterday. This morning before we left I met a couple who camped next to us from Pennsylvania, they are both retired special education teachers that are traveling around, I may see them in southern Utah in the next 1-2 weeks. They provided some guidance on where to go at the Grand Canyon, they have kayaked it twice.

Interesting note – Why is it that the religious and Spanish radio stations have great reception everywhere? But I can’t get the score of the MN/NY baseball came on my iPhone, arggg!
In the morning I woke up to a wonderful sunrise, I rolled over opened the drapes and there was this cool sunrise with the Snake River and rolling hills in the background, can’t get that sitting at home. All the bird hunters were gone before sunrise, what an interesting sport, I think the 2020 Olympics???

I must have really trashed the dog, he did not wake up until 7:30am. I figured I would get some reprieve with the change to mountain time zone, but this is bonus, maybe it's the pillow.

No internet, limited phone so not able to update the blog today, will post tomorrow.

On to Idaho…

October 10, 2009

We moved eastward in anticipation of our run to the south. It will not come soon enough since it will be 25 degrees here tonight. I’m thinking of running to Lava Hot Springs tomorrow just to thaw. In about a week I’ll be bitching about the heat, just wait.

We checked a few places around Twin Falls Idaho and decided on the Village of the Trees RV Resort outside of Declo, Idaho. One of the main reasons is that it had a dock in the Snake River were Indie could run and jump, he’s getting better, no fears, I just need to work on the distance. I want him to be one of those dog jumping champions and tour the country, my next career.

Since we have had the trailer we have always had this ugly green Astroturf that we would use outside the door, keeps everything clean. Before I left I decided to get a new one, all they had at our local lame Home Depot was this bright blue astro-carpet, so I got it. Now I’m in Idaho and realized it’s the exact same color as the Boise St football field, I’m waiting for someone to come over and yell “go broncos!” For those following outside of the US and those who don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s really ugly bright blue.

The last of the flies are now dead, two stragglers that were stowaways showed themselves when I brought in the chicken from the grill. I think they were so weak from not eating and travel they were easy kills.

Camping has gotten so cool from the days of car camping with a tent in the rainy Pacific NW. I’m typing on my laptop with wifi access, I have my iPhone and I’m watching the Michigan Iowa football game inside my trailer through cable. Oh and sucking down some wine. How cool is that!

I only have a 16 foot trailer, for the two of us, it’s fine. I have the smallest trailer in the park by far. There is one next to me that you could put four of my 16 foot trailers inside, and there are only two people. What do they do with all that space? I’m guessing they have an intercom and mapping systems to get around. Bet they have central vacuum to get their flies out.

So tomorrow it will either be to the hot springs or south to Utah, please send warm weather!!!
