We made it as far at Benton City today, which is just outside of the tri-cities of Washington. Indie enjoyed the ride but we had to stop at two rest stops so he could sniff around and do his Indie thing.
We are staying at the Beach RV Park, not sure where they get the name, but I did not see any beaches. We did get a nice spot along the river, nice view but a little too close to the noise of the freeway, but it’s OK.
The Beach RV Park also has spots for long-term residents, with the economy down right now there many people here that are using this for their temporary homes, it’s a bit sad to see.
So we got settled, took Indie to the park/boat ramp across the street where he could get his swim time. He has picked up this strange habit at the local Redmond dog park of trying to get tennis balls that have sunk to the bottom. He has spent countless time playing with the balls and attempting to get them out of the water. It’s pretty strange seeing your dog with his head under water and blowing bubbles, even stranger when you have to explain to others what your dog is doing.
So it’s salmon run time in the Pacific NW, when the salmon lay their eggs and die, so there are always salmon bodies on the side of the river. Well I guess that a salmon head is similar looking to a tennis ball underwater to Indie, this means Indie is playing with salmon heads now too.
First day of travel is always one of the hardest, new things, testing stuff, trying to find where you put stuff, getting a routine. So dinner was no problem, steak on the grill and salad. But I did not realize being this close to the river is that flies will come into your camper. After dinner, when I came into the camper there must have been several 100 flies inside, now in a 16 foot camper that is a lot. So I put my stuff down and start trying to get the flies out of the camper and what do I do, I hit the red wine bottle spilling it all over the table, the drapes, the walls, the cushions, everywhere. So now I go into oh shit mode and try to limit the damage. Of course being in the camper I have limited cleaning supplies. Soap and water do not get red wine stains out of the stuff.
So I’m sitting in the camper, red wine everywhere, flies everywhere and I’m thinking, what the hell am I doing, I should just go home. So I call Yvette, she says get some carpet cleaning stuff for red wine. I go the local market and find Resolve, first thing on the list is that is gets out red wine, I race back, spray it everywhere and no more red wine stain, this is miracle stuff. My camper now smells like a meth lab, but that can be fixed and I don’t’ have any wine stains.
So now that the red wine is resolved, I need to work on the flies. I’m using a towel, my hands, paper, I’m getting a few, so I get the small portable handheld vacuum that is in the trailer to start cleaning the dead ones, and what do I learn, I can vacuum the dumb ass flies with the vacuum, so within 10 minutes, full vacuum, no flies.
Indie is now either sleeping or stoned on Resolve fumes and I have time to update my blog before crashing for the night. Tomorrow we are heading to Oregon…..
